Avoiding Surgery and Disc Problems One of the scariest diagnoses for a patient to be given (relative to their spine) is one of a disc herniation. Discs separate the vertebrae and act like little shock absorbers, cushioning the bones so they don’t crash against each other. If a herniated disc goes into the spinal cord or puts pressure on nerves it may cause severe pain that could make daily activities very difficult. In extreme cases, arm, hand, foot or leg numbness or a loss of muscle control may occur. While spinal surgery is sometimes necessary, especially in cases of trauma or severe bone, disc and nerve destruction, the vast majority of people with low-back pain, neck pain, arm pain and /or sciatica never need it. A large number of the disc surgeries done every year are unnecessary and useless. Every day Dr. Dan helps people with disc herniations avoid surgery. Before considering any invasive treatment options, consider chiropractic as a gentle and safe way to heal from a disc injury. |
